The GF-8 Crane System has established itself as an industry standard and is probably the most popular rideable and remote crane system available today.

Internationally, the number of satisfied clients continues to grow and uncountable end users can testify to the versatility, stability and durability of the GF-8 Crane System.

Its modern, lightweight design combined with high grade pan & tilt bearing systems provides unmatched ease of movement and steady crane moves.

With the GF-8, all of the same sized extensions, rigging and parallelogram rods are identical.
The result is a logical and easy to understand assembly procedure with almost unlimited versatility in set-up possibilities.

As confirmation of GFM's high manufacturing and safety standards, the TÜV Süddeutschland have safety type tested and approved the GF-8 Crane System according to European guidelines for the scope of application under EC directives especially EC directive 98 / 37 / EC.
This certification is based on state-of-the-art-technology.

The Xten Kit

By adding the Xten Kit, the standard GF-8 Crane can, at any time, be extended to a GF-8 Xten Crane providing extra height and range.

The GF-8 Xten Crane System is a standard GF-8 Crane plus the Xten Kit. It has a double, rod rigging system, a higher pivot height, an extra weight bucket and a longer rear end section than the standard GF-8.

The Base Dolly

GF-8 camera crane system basedolly

The GF-8 Standard Base:
with single ended, corrected steering geometry allowing a minimum circular movement of 258cm / 9′ 4" inside diameter. Can roll from floor to standard 62cm /24,5" track by just clicking on the track wheels. Levelling legs and and adapters to 100cm / 39" track are also available.

The GF-8 Double Ended Steering Base:
offers all the features of the standard base but with double ended steering. Each end functions independently with a dedicated steering rod for each operator. Can roll from floor to standard 62cm /24,5" track by just clicking on the track wheels. Levelling legs and and adapters to 100cm / 39" track are also available.

The GF-8 Double Ended Connected Steering Base:
offers all the features of the standard base but with GFM's unique connected steering system. The 3 steering functions are controlled from the rear of the dolly by simply flicking a lever. You can roll from floor to standard 62cm /24,5" track by just clicking on the track wheels. Levelling legs and and adapters to 100cm / 39" track are also available. Provides the utmost in manouverabilty.

   Front 2 wheel
    -
operated from the rear of the dolly. In this mode the front wheels are
      steered allowing a minimum circular movement of 258cm / 9′ 4"
      inside diameter.
   4 wheel inverted
    -
all 4 wheels can be turned together giving a "roundy round" steering effect
   Rear 2 wheel
    -
in this mode the rear wheels are steered from the rear of the dolly.

The GF-8 Base Dolly's, push down wheel brakes help to stop unwanted rolling or moving of the base.

4 x 2 Track wheels are available in a special Vulkulan mix which are ideal for fast tracking shots but also provide extremely smooth movement for man riding or remote use. The mounted track wheels don?t restrict the wheels when steering. If the ground surface demands it, the track wheels can be removed or added within seconds. Optionally 4 x 4 Track wheels are also available in either Vulkulan or Plastic.

Sturdy, hand cranked levelling legs can be attached to each of the base dollies allowing for fast adjustments on uneven surfaces. The position of the levelling jacks increases the footprint of the base.

A special adapter enables connection of the track wheels to run on 100cm/39 inch track rather than the standard 62cm /24,5 inch.

The bases are equipped with fittings for a push bar at either end of the dolly. The push bar is especially useful for fast tracking shots allowing 2 operators comfortable positioning on either side of the bases.

All the GF-8 Crane arm components fit on a dedicated transport trolley. The trolley system protects the parts from unnecessary wear and tear as each piece has it's own location on the trolley. For example, when a short version of the GF-8 is required, all remaining sections, rods etc are left on the trolley for safe keeping. Custom designed trolleys and carriers are also available for the counterweights.

The Setup

GF-8 camera crane system setup

The GF-8 Crane System can be built to adapt to most requirements on almost any location, ranging from jib arm to rideable to remote crane.
Numerous man-riding versions and remote versions can be built according to your requirements and imagination.

The GF-8′s angle adjusters mean that there are no dedicated front sections required. Unlike other cranes, the GF-8 has no set nose piece or bucket end. During assembly you don't need to follow a strict numerical set-up procedure.
Version 8, for example, consists of 4 x 150cm (5′) and 1 x 100cm (3′ 3") extension arms to the front of the crane. The 4 longer arms are identical to each other. Naturally the parallelogramm rods and rigging rods follow the same principal.

Shorter crane versions can be assembled with either an optional 40cm (1′ 6"), 75cm (2′ 6") or 100cm (3′ 3") as the bucket end rather than the standard 127cm / 4' 2" extension. The front of the arm can be built from the remaining sections.

The angle adjusters are then mounted to either of the ends. As an aditional option, for jib arm use, a counterweight rod can be used instead of the counterweight bucket, further increasing the versatility of the GF-8. In it's jib arm configuration, the GF-8 can be mounted on other dollies by using the GFM Euro and Mitchell adapters to GF-8.

It goes without saying that this ultra modular crane system provides an endless number of camera support possibilities.
